Duzuru (doo-zoo-roo)

The Duzuru are tall, reptilian humanoids native to the planet Viobos. Standing between 6 to 7 feet tall, they are characterized by their vibrant scales, which can be any number of colors, and their long, powerful tails—unless they’ve served in the Chaphine military, in which case their tails are cropped short as a symbol of service. They’re physically imposing but known for their grace and agility.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Reptilian: With sleek, scale-covered bodies in a range of colors, the Duzuru are visually striking. Their reptilian appearance, including long tails and sharp claws, gives them a somewhat fearsome look, but they are not inherently aggressive. Tail: The tail is a significant aspect of Duzuru identity. Those who have not served in the military have long tails that are often decorated with ornate jewelry and carvings. Those who have served in the Chaphine military will have their tails cropped as a sign of loyalty and discipline.

Growth Rate & Stages

Duzuru live long lives, typically about 80 major cycles (roughly comparable to years). They are born from eggs, which are laid and cared for communally, particularly in tribal settings. They grow slowly but steadily, reaching maturity after about 20 cycles, and the elder stage of their life is one of wisdom and guidance, where they are highly respected by their community.

Behaviour

The Duzuru are generally proud and resilient. In their tribal communities, they live in harmony with the natural world, valuing cooperation, survival skills, and the wisdom of their elders. They are known to be respectful and thoughtful, often valuing tradition, family, and the guidance of their community. Duzuru integrated into Chaphine society tend to exhibit a more formal, disciplined manner, shaped by their military or service roles. They are often quiet, observant, and dutiful, especially in the presence of nobility. However, they maintain a strong sense of dignity, even while serving others.

Civilization and Culture

Courtship Ideals

In both tribal and Chaphine societies, beauty standards and courting rituals are not strictly gendered. Both male and female Duzuru partake in tail adornments, patterened skin carvings, and acts of affection. Courting is a mutual act, where both parties are expected to contribute gestures of admiration and affection. Duzuru value balance and equality in relationships, seeing partnerships as collaborative rather than dominated by one gender.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

The Duzuru are a proud and resourceful people with a deep connection to their heritage. Whether living in their traditional tribal communities or serving in the Chaphine-dominated society, they carry themselves with a quiet dignity and strong sense of identity.

Common Taboos

For a Duzuru, there are several behaviors that would be considered universally unforgivable, regardless of whether they come from tribal, rural, or urban communities. These actions are deeply tied to their sense of honor, respect, and personal dignity, and violating these unspoken rules would be seen as an extreme offense.
  • Commenting on or disrepecting someone's body either through language or action. For example, mocking a person's form or figure to a Duzuru will lose you a friend. Touching someone without their permission in front of a Duzuru may lose you your hand.
  • Disregard and disrepect of elders
  • Breaking a promise or agreement. Lying is not a Duzuru's favorite thing, but they will get over it. However, if a specific promise or pact was made and broken, a Duzuru is likely to never forget this.
  • History

Hailing from Viobos, the Duzuru welcomed the Chaphine when they arrived and have shared their traditions, food and resources with the newcomers. Most Duzuru live in among the other citizens in Viobos, while others still keep to themselves in small villages in the dense jungle and forests of the planet.
