Children of Tyuthos
A small, quiet religion that follows the teachings of an ancient prophet and wise woman. Tyuthos is said to have been a Chaphine who rejected the trappings of common society and teaches a shedding of ego, a life of simplicity, and social exclusion. The Children of Tyuthos are regarded as a cult and can sometimes be found meditating or speaking on the virtues of poverty and solitude in public places.
Mythology & Lore
Tyuthos was a Chaphine woman born into wealth and luxury. She spent her youth enjoying the finer things, bathing in milk and honey. On her 88th birthday, the day the Chaphine believe a person truly enters adulthood, she expected to be lavished with gifts unlike anything she'd ever known. When she saw the measley gems and few silks her parents had gotten her, she became very upset. She ran from the grounds of her family's grand estate and, after a while, fell down in the street crying. She had never been so miserable.
She looked up from the place where she had fallen and was weeping to see a young girl rolling a stick down the street. The girl was wearing simple rags, no shoes and did not seem to have family or friends to speak of... but she was smiling, laughing. The girl was experiencing the simple joy of focus and attention on only the object of her joy while Tyuthos was weeping for the failure of her high expectations.
From that day, Tyuthos moved from her family estate, began to sleep in the street, took on simple clothing and ate only simple grain and vegetables. She would tell anyone who asked that she had learned to key to real joy was to remove oneself from objects, people and desires that would inevitably fail your expectations of them. When you expect to eat unseasoned grain, you expect it to be unremarkable and when it is, you feel joy.
