Ages of Leylos

Herein are marked the past and present eras of the world of Leylos, describing the world's formative events an inflection points.

Age of Echoes

Before empires, before all—there was the ley.

This earliest age saw the raw sculpting of the world. Leylines coursed like molten arteries beneath the surface, and the titankin molded continents in harmony with elemental will. As the ley flow cooled and stabilized, dragons arose from the core and ruled over mana-soaked dominions. Mortals, humble and scattered, slowly emerged in the shadows of these giants and wyrms.

    Era of The Giants
    Era beginning/end

Prior to all others, the world was first shaped by Titankin—immense beings often called "Giants" by later peoples. The Giants did not build empires as mortals understand them, but rather lived as elemental stewards, shaping the world in accordance with the primal currents of creation.

Over time, the leylines shifted—cooling, narrowing, and stabilizing—making it harder for giants to reproduce or sustain their immense forms. Some Giants dissolved into the elements, becoming parts of the landscape—while others entered stone-deep geodic stasis. A few rogue Storm Giants are rumored to still madly wander the high reaches of the world. It is believed that the modern species known as Goliaths are the distant, diminished remnants of the smallest giants who were able to survive the waning.

  • The Primeval Past
    Advent of Dragons
    Population Migration / Travel

The first drakes emerge from the planet’s deep crust, possibly formed from primal mana vortices at the world’s core. These beings are theorized to be spontaneous manifestations of creation’s foundational forces—heat, pressure, and raw magic—rather than biological evolution.

Over millions of years, these creatures evolve into modern Dragons, gaining intellect, magical affinity, and hoarding instincts. Their biology includes a specialized manavore organ, allowing them to absorb and store raw magical energy—making them unique among all known species. Eventually, they develop the ability to asexually produce bipedal offspring known as Dragonborn, who serve their parents as vassals, servants and champions.

    Miscellaneous

Precursors to modern Humankin—Dwarves, Halflings, Orcs, and Humans—emerge. Thought to share a common progenitor, they evolve over many millennia of geographic isolation to develop differential physical characteristics. Parallel to these species, Goblinkin also begin to appear. It is believed that they too are an early bifurcation of the same evolutionary tree, though no historical record of a common ancestor is known to exist.

Over time, these early people coagulate into distinct tribal groups culminating in the advent of mortal societies. Likely evolving independently in mana-rich ecosystems reshaped by draconic nesting sites, many of these cultures revere dragons as natural gods, fearing and honoring them through offerings and geomantic rites.

  • Ancient Cataclysm
    The Doom of Vael’Taras
    Disaster / Destruction

A once-great civilization of mortals, known in scattered inscriptions as the Vael’Tarathi, flourished in what is now the basaltic wastes of the Blight Reaches. Researchers speculate their society blended early arcane theory with astral harmonics. It is legend that they uncovered some form of metaphysical power that led to their utter demise.

Age of Convergence

When the stars touched the sea and the skies bled shimmer.

Marked by the cataclysmic event known as The Shimmer, this era began when the Vestal—a once-parallel reality—collided with the Leylos. The result was a metaphysical scar across the world: leyline storms, planar rifts, and the arrival of the Fey. The Eladrin and their kin were shunted into our reality as if from thin air. Initially disoriented, they established tentative settlements, thinking their exile to be temporary. But as decades passed, they came to dominate the arcane and ecological landscape of Leylos, using their ancient otherworldly knowledge to stabilize leyline distortions and harness native magic.

    Formation of the Seelie Court
    Diplomatic action

Leaders of the Eladrin nobility introduce the 'Seelie Unification Treaty' during the 1462 Diet of Flowers, in a bid to consolidate the Elven subraces into a militarized bureaucracy. The Sylvan and Mistral coalitions are the first to join, followed later by the Naidra, and finally by the Drow after prolonged negotiations and diplomatic concessions. The Temple of Corellon would later formally recognize the collective as the 'Seelie Court', enshrining the pact under the letter of their authority.

Age of Dominion

“Progress. Purity. Peace.” —Dominion Broadcast

With their planar anchor secure and their magical supremacy unrivaled, the Fey consolidate power. The Fey Dominion emerges as a global hegemon. Through mastery of leyline infrastructure, bio-magical engineering, and broadcast mana, the Eladrin reshape the world in their image.

The Dominion enforces an ethnonationalist hierarchy: Seelie Elves at the top, Unseelie below, and all non-Fey treated as expendable resources. Surveillance becomes total through the Scrynet, and open rebellion becomes all but impossible—save for the Underdark and fringe colonies.
