The Deep
The Deep is a labyrinthine network of twisting tunnels and cavernous expanses that stretch deep into the bowels of the earth. The air is thick with the scent of damp stone and the sound of trickling water echoes through the winding passageways. Bioluminescent mosses and fungi glow in a myriad of colors, casting an ethereal light that illuminates the subterranean landscape. The dangers of The Deep are many. Unstable caverns and treacherous pitfalls are a constant hazard, and deadly creatures lurk in the darkness.
The inhabitants of The Deep are as diverse as the caverns they call home. Dwarves, Gorgons, and Crystal beings coexist with a variety of other subterranean races, each with their own unique culture and customs. Gloaming Town is a chaotic and sprawling settlement that serves as a hub for trade and commerce, while Ros Vaat is an imposing fortress that serves as the seat of power for the powerful clan of Dwarves. Ral Kharak is known for its rich veins of precious metals and gems, while Crys is a glittering city of crystal that is considered a marvel of design and artistry.
Many from the surface have found refuge in the Deep, particularly those seeking to evade the watchful eyes of the Fey Dominion. Some of these individuals have joined with the various subterranean races and cultures, adopting their way of life and making their homes deep underground. Others simply use the Deep as a means of transport, using secret tunnels and passages to move from one part of the surface world to another without being detected by the Dominion's agents. However, the Fey are not entirely ignorant of this practice and have been known to launch raids into the Deep to root out any surface dwellers who may be using it as a refuge. As a result, those who seek sanctuary in the Deep must be constantly vigilant, always aware of the dangers that lurk in the darkness around them.
