Session X: Red, The Face Of Giggling Gremlins Report
General Summary
The Custodes having oriented themselves with the revelation that they are in the Teutoburg Forest, proceed towards the Limes. They encounter a goatherd that has been cleaning up and caring for Lares that he discovers along the remains of the abandoned Flavian wall and share a warm meal and some companionship with him for the evening. The following day they make it to the Limes, present themselves to the soldiers on garrison, and are taken in. The border soldiers, believing that they are Lucius's contubernium returning successful, are excited to see them and help them relax and recover from their retreat.
Having rested, the Custodes borrow horses - German Fleetfoots - and head west to Augusta Trevororum to report in as Aetius Marcellus Pertinax had requested, but not before being ambushed yet again.
Aeneas and Saorise make quick work of the assailants, and after a search (and dismembering) of the bodies it is determined that they are Roman soldiers. This indicates that the ambush wasn't solely planned by Germans feeding Pertinax false information, but coordinated with traitors within the military itself.
After reporting their findings, the Legata assures them that it will be investigated and releases the Custodes to spend the rest of the winter at their leisure.
