Hecate

Lady of the Night, she represents the most fearsome phase of the moon, the one in which it disappears from the sky, when the sky is empty and in the grip of darkness. Goddess of Change, she embodies the flowing of time and is portrayed with three faces: maiden, mother, and crone. Her mutability makes her simultaneously a celestial, terrestial, and Underworld goddess. She has power over the living and over the dead. She's the one who accompanies the souls in their last journey from the earth to the Afterlife, and for this reason she's considered the protector of the passages through which we enter a new place or a new state of being. She's a lady of magic, the art that is at the same time good and evil, black and white. She's worshipped by sorcerers and necromancers, but also by seers, since through her continuous becomeing she can know past, present, and future. She's portrayed as a maiden with three faces. The central one is that of a stern young woman, and the lateral ones are that of a child and an elder. She often has a torch in her hands, because she lights the path in the night, or a key, as she opens and closes doors. Sometimes she has an infernal hound curled up next to her.
