The tongue of Natare - bridge
The city of Natare straddles the river, the majority on the north bank, a touch on the island in the middle of the river, and a second large portion on the south bank.
Stretching the gap between the northern and southern portions stretches a bridge, grown from magic and 8 large and thick trunked trees. This bridge is the tongue of Natare.
Each end of the bridge is guarded by gates that can be opened or closed with complex technomagical locks, like the portcullis of old, only made of a reinforced plant growth, magic running down each branch that grows out and retracts at the flow of magic through it.
The bridge itself spans the river, with the branches grown and encouraged along long struts of pressed earth that has long since worn away. The trees have then grown up and over in a massive canopy.
While healed, scars litter the side of the tongue - from the time raiders from Xylos' army attempted to take the city by force - but were repelled by the wards around the city.
The middle 4 trees of the tongue are large mangrove trees, brought from the mangrove forest to the west, bred by magic to be more resistant to freshwater.
Bards and poets have written songs and rhymes about this construction, and it holds significance to the people of the southern part of the city as they are generally less academic types, and tend to live furthest from the Arboretum and the Giant Sakura Tree.
During the Autumn festival, people from the southern city release floating lanterns from the bridge, and drape grown vegetables off the edge to be eaten by local bird life.
