At 2 hours before first dawn, 3 youths were spear fishing in a little canoe off of Wondrall. They escaped lurking danger - but their rescuers were not so lucky.
The youths caught the attention of 6 sharks in the early hours of the morning, two foliad boys and a young troll man. Swimming to the nearby reef, they thought they were safe, even as the sharks swam closer. Stranded and surrounded they were marooned, but within sight lines of home.
Eventually they caught the attention of some of the men of Wondrall jetty, who quickly arranged a boat with intent to rescue the youths.
Deskin Bluebraid was the captain of the vessel - a famed but retired marine biologist of Academy fame.
"The sharks nearly got us, one bowled straight through Dustin and came straight for me because I had a big Arateen. I kicked the shark away and we made for the reef."
The boys were stuck for 2 hours, the tide threatening to rise and put them back where they started when Bluebraid and his vessel made up alongside the reef. The boys were about to hop aboard, the young Troll man about to go first, when dark shadows approached under them all, drawn by the sharks.
"I had to pull Quay back quickly, there was too much dark in the water below the boat and it just felt wrong."
It was a baby kraken, and Bluebraid's ship was quickly broken up and its crew devoured all while the boys were forced to watch. It took another harrowing hour to get a second boat out there, after the kraken had left to save the boys.
A paper lantern vigil will be held in the upcoming days, and the Academy of Natare is arranging a display of Deskin Bluebraid's discoveries in the upcoming month. Please check the Grand Library or Br1n for updates.
