Lerep

One of the ways eastern Solaris and then later, Levis large, gets easy to use sugar supplies, is through the Lerep. Little crystallised half moon casings, they are like little drops of sweetness on the tongue. While some can have a waxy texture, the casings are formed around the nymph form of an aphid-like insect as it drinks the moisture and nuitrients from eucalyptus leaves in the area.

But it is basically bug poop?

A lerep is certainly a bug secretion, though the product comes with no microbial hangers on that one might associate with 'poop'. The starch heavy casing is completely edible in this manner, and many of the birds, bats and glider types around east solaris readily eat the casings, shaking the nymph free to get at the sweet goodness.

History

Use by locals is a long held custom that has been passed down through the ages. While loss of this idea was lost during the trade of human honey, during their time of cultural dominance of Levis, the act was revitalised when the walls of Solaris were built up, lerep forming all along the eastern wall as the aphid-like creatures began a more concentrated migration from the Mulga plains, though many ecologists wonder about the hows and whys of their journey through the mountains.
Their use in cooking happened around the 1500s Quiet years, with knowledge on how to properly turn these casings from solids into a rich and sticky caramel.
