Cogsiliare - dead drops

You want to hide something in a world where if someone knows it is hidden, it is but an act of magic away. But you don't necessarily have magic yourself. You could hire a mage, but then the mage would know that you have something to hide, and what you are hiding if you are indiscrete enough. But you're not a rookie. You knew before you started that you'd either have to hide something, or you'd be likely to - so you set up a cogsiliare and now you or someone you inform of the location can come pick up the hidden item without magical whosibits.

History

Illegal, hidden and taboo acts have existed long before the Human Years, and bards and smugglers and illicit acts just as long. What changed at the ending of the Human Years and the beginning of the Quiet Years was a firm belief that said acts could be potentially dangerous to the entire realm. Thus came the need to hide with magic and ritual, what was traditionally hidden just with obfiscuration. Traditional magic was not well suited to the task, taking too much space for what was needed and magic reaching out to magic and things magical meaning that to hide something with magic was more obvious than tucking it away and hoping for the best.

One night the desperate and the urgent had something they needed out their hands lest the Grandmother's guards catch the hunted and with a call to the unspoken god they tucked the prize under a grown bridge over the stone struts of something once human made, with a trinket from some strange dig. All the smuggler knew was that the whole hiding place became invisible and the smuggler got away free. Naturally the solution spread over games and booze and experimentation soon followed.

Execution

The first step is a call to smugglers long gone, the wording need not be precise, just that the hider must give respect.

Then an element of stone or mineral is added to whatever needs to be hidden. Next a donation of something strange must be added, a call to the well of possibility the magic that swirls around the offerings and makes the divine not act like a beacon for the arcane.

Lastly the offerings and items must be hidden. The magic does not seem to work out in the open.

Many have likened this to witch magic, while others remark how strange this is even to the forms of god worship still performed today, indeed how modern bards and smugglers have stripped the worship out of this idea of the divine in the clandestine.

Observance

There is no set date or time, though often occurrence seems to happen at the full and new moons, with the drops at full strength during the new moon, while full moon almost gives the drops a silvery shimmer. Care must be taken then that the physical hide is very effective.
