Gwenaël

Gwenaël was born to parents Nathanaël and Joséphine in a small hamlet located in the south of Rileia Principate. Unfortunately, Gwenaël’s birth was not without incident. His mother, Joséphine, had possessed a weak constitution since childhood, and later it became apparent that both mother and child would not survive the pregnancy. At some point, Nathanaël made a pact with the infernal to ensure the survival of Joséphine and Gwenaël. Nathanaël vanished, seemingly into thin air, shortly after Gwenaël’s successful delivery. The exact details and nature of the pact made have never been disclosed to Gwenaël, Joséphine refusing to speak to him of it.
At age 5, Gwenaël and his mother were approached by the Magus Martial (MAR-SYAL) ex Flambeau. Martial was a self-stylized, “Demon Hunter”, his investigations into the infernal in the region led him to Joséphine. He offered her and Gwenaël a safe place at his covenant, in return Joséphine would tell him exactly what had transpired the night of Gwenaël’s birth. Joséphine would eventually agree to his offer, fearing the possible punishment at the hands of the Church but under the condition Martial never tell Gwenaël what happened the night he was born.
Gwenaël was originally to be raised as a “man at arms” in Martial’s covenant, as due to Gwenaël’s gentle gift, it was long time before anyone realised his potential as a magus. Once it was discovered, Martial quickly took to training Gwenaël under the School of Ramius to build upon the martial abilities he had already been taught.
Martial was a kind teacher, rarely punishing Gwenaël, allowing Gwenaël’s carefree and optimistic nature to go completely unchecked. This also led Gwenaël to being a weak studier and being completely incomprehensible when it came to reporting his findings. During his apprenticeship Martial partly broke the promise he made with Joséphine, giving Gwenaël the basic details that surrounded his birth.
At first, Gwenaël had intended to stay at Martial’s covenant for a longer period, however not long after his apprenticeship officially ended, Joséphine passed away. Gwenaël decided not long after to go out and form his own covenant, accompanied by his best friend Florentin LaFromboise and a small group of coven folk which Martial insisted Gwenaël bring with him.
Martial ex Flambeau: Martial ex Flambeau is a magus of renown based in Rileia Principate, when not at his covenant he travels the surrounding lands acting as an exorcist and expunging evil. Martial, like many Flambeau, was initially taught under the School of the Founder but after his apprenticeship studied under the School of Ramius. The latter school becoming his preferred form of combat to teach his apprentices.
In terms of magical ability, Martial is most skilled in Perdo, using it to either attack opponents directly or destroy their offensive and defensive capabilities. He has created a series of Perdo spells designed for dealing with otherworldly beings, specifically the infernal. In addition, he has written multiple volumes on his own personal experiences in combatting the infernal.
Martial tended to act as surrogate father for his apprentices, of which he has had three:
• Anne-Sophie (AN-SAW-FEE) ex Flambeau: Martial’s first apprentice, taken in not long after Martial begun studying under the school of Ramius. Left shortly after her apprenticeship, now Hoplite of quite renown, having slain numerous Magi which the Order had cast out.
• Ignace (EE-NYAS) ex Flambeau: Martial’s second apprentice, didn’t take well to the School of Ramius, abandoning it quickly after his apprenticeship ended. Now practices the school of Apromor.
• Gwenaël ex Flambeau.
