The Ember's Gift

Description

The Ember's Gift, more commonly known as the Imperial Guild of Metallurgy and Engineering, is a relatively young guild originating from the southern Duchies of Middenland. It was originally formed by a group of engineers from Corasonne who wanted to be able to sell their creations at stable prices, rather than compete with each other. Due to the booming metallurgy industry it became an incredibly successful initiative, and the guild has spread among the larger cities in the southern Duchies of Middenland, and it even has a small foothold in the Cadena Archipelago.

Services

By banding together into a single craft's guild, the members of the Ember's Gift have effectively obtained local monopolies in their regions. This has allowed them to maintain stable prices for their goods, which has given them more means to research new marvels of engineering. With everyone under the same organization, they have set and maintained standards of quality for all metallurgy works. They have also implemented strict guidelines and peer review systems for new engineering inventions. Banding together has also given them a stronger voice within local city governments to further their own interests and achieve their economic objectives. The funds of the membership fees are also put towards research into new metalworking methods to improve production.

Influence

At this point, membership in the Ember's Gift is necessary to do business as a smith in most of the southern half of Middenland. Through their effective monopoly, they have obtained vast wealth and carved out a niche within society for themselves. In some of the larger cities they own a section of town near the edge that is filled with forges and foundries that functions as its own community, where apprentices are trained and most of the mass production is done. The shops near the town centers usually sell the non-bulk products and finer artisanry, they only work on specific orders.
