Siege Crab

Biology

A giant crab crawls along the sea floor, but on its bottom is a hatch and inside it carries a crew. It moves with a determination, heading straight for its destination, ready to strike.
These titanic crustaceans have been warped into living amphibious war machines through a combination of bio-thaumaturgy, enchantment magic and surgery. The people of Kulanakai first accomplished this ages ago with the help of the southern Locathah shamans. Nowadays this knowledge of this practice has spilled over to others as well, such as Kuo-Toa or Sahuagin warbands. But growing these giant beasts through bio-thaumaturgy and magical mutations takes decades of work, many costly materials and is not even guaranteed to succeed. Sustaining a beast like this take many resources as well, so the threat to mainland settlements is thankfully somewhat limited.

Intelligence and Social Behavior

Now, while the beast itself may have grown massive, its intelligence has not. They are no more intelligent than a regular crab but even less able to properly assess their environment due to their enormous size. They have to be magically controlled through a coral circlet that they are bound to. The wearer has absolute control over the beast and can give it mental commands. The crab obeys these orders to the best of its ability, but unlike a construct it cannot be given conditional instructions or programs. The creature can only follow direct orders and is usually commanded to simply stand still if the controller needs to leave the crab's immediate vicinity.
