Lydia

(a.k.a. Nightsinger, Mistress of Twilight)

Portfolio

Lydia is the Fragment of Hidden Plans, Hope and Despair. She is the whisper that raises suspicion of infidelity and breaks a marriage, the source of the conspiracy theory that causes the uprising and the only one who knows all the layers of the scheme. She represents both the hopes of people to get on top and gain a better life, as well as the despair those whose plans fail experience. Called upon by revolutionaries, hopeless beggars and powerful politicians, many will seek her out, but few will do so openly. Her reputation has been tarnished by the fact that she plays the role of villain in many myths and legends, effectively making her a scapegoat goddess. Because of this vilification, she lashes out at those who she considers to be self righteous or unfairly put on a pedestal. She's distanced herself from her fellow Gods and even her followers.   Her portfolio is rather subjective and interpreted in vastly different manners among the different cultures. For Middenlanders, scheming is something done only by the archetypical backstabbing villain who lacks chivalry. Someone who breaks the law for their own gain, or who uses poison rather than fight fairly. Someone who tries to cheat to win a contest of skill and might. Only her aspect of hope gains some traction here, but even then its pull is limited and she is not well-liked. But for the Sulvari  things are different, they do not consider a well-thought-out scheme a bad thing. To them a coward is someone who only does the right thing when the crowd is watching. Who hides behind the law or keeps silent when he knows others are suffering. Their greatest heroes are those who come up with staggering plans, risking it all and going through both hope and despair, and often the Mistress of Twilight is smiling somewhere in the back in these myths.

Worshipers

Much like Larum, Lydia is rarely worshiped in the open. What churches there are, are often hidden underground or in criminal circles. Many call upon her in private however, praying for help in their secret endeavors to gain a life better than they have.

Description

She is often described or depicted as a beautiful, raven-haired woman with pale skin, wearing a dress of black and purple. She hides her face behind a white mask with no features except for the slits for a mouth and eyes. Her arms are decorated with several silver armbands and her dress is woven through with peacock feathers.
