UNS Hope

Seeder of Life

Warning, this article contains information completely unknown to the inhabitants of the world.
The UNS Hope is a spacefaring vessel that the people of Riel consider a natural moon called Vol. It was built on Earth to transport thousands of adventurous human settlers with hopes of building a new and brighter future on a new planet, although only a few of the original passengers survived the 112 year journey. The vessel has been in the planet’s orbit since 6594 BA, or 2308, according the old Gregorian calendar used on Earth, roughly 8000 years.

Early Efforts

Scans were conducted as soon as the UNS Hope had reached Riel’s orbit in order to find the perfect location for a settlement and to assess potential previously unforeseen dangers. Eventually, a spot at the mouth of the Nelsis river was chosen, a place that would be named New Hope.   It didn’t take long, however, for the human settlers to learn of the danger that the local creatures posed on their fledgling colony. These aberati tormented the early settlers, threatening to put an end to the human expedition on their planet.   The Unity of Riel was the official government of all humans on the new planet. Their leaders had the power to call upon destructive orbital bombardments and request new supply drops. With all that power and with the pressure of keeping all of mankind alive on an alien world, the ruling council grew stricter with each passing day, curtailing freedoms they feared threatened their chances of survival.   Eventually, in the midsts of a massive aberati attack, a large group of the dissidents fled the settlement, giving birth to new factions. With the Unity of Riel withering away from attacks and internal turmoil, the crew onboard the UNS Hope guaranteed to all human factions on Riel that they would forever provide their support to everyone, as long as that support isn’t for hurting other humans.

Last Inhabitants

Humanity scattered across the planet, splintering into various factions that would eventually, over the course of thousands of years, develop into the cultures that inhabit the world today. The crew of the UNS Hope continued to support their brothers and sisters on Riel by supplying them with food and weapons for as long as they could, occasionally even sending out transport pods with new colonists down to the planet. A long and brutal war waged on Riel, a war that the humans won, but at a terrible cost.   Over a century of fighting, the aberati had rapidly drained the settlers of their equipment, which inevitably led to technological regression. Groups of settlers began losing contact with their allies in orbit, forcing them to make do without mankind’s greatest asset.   A day eventually came when all of Riel had plunged into an age of darkness, humanity's once mighty tech broken and worthless. Even still, their lost siblings in space looked down upon them and considered their options. A final pod of settlers was launched down to Riel nearly a century after the rest of humanity had lost contact with the Hope. These newcomers landed on the shores of lake Clēqhuap, a location that would one day influence the world due to its significance in Aprēaq Hūril. Were they the last remnants of the ship’s crew, or is there still someone looking down on the people of Riel?
