Gloamroot
The gloamroot is a large evergreen tree that grows mostly in western Lerulious. These towering trees grow over huge spans of time, and provide several useful products to anyone who harvests them.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Gloamroot grows straight up, with branches growing out from the trunk that branch into smaller branches which are covered in ashy green needles that are about an inch and a half in length. The branches push out from the trunk at absolute most about fifteen feet. The roots of the Gloamroot are very visible and prominent, pushing up from the soil in places.
Genetics and Reproduction
The Gloamroot bears thick woody cones that open after being exposed to fire. These cones protect the seeds of the Gloamroot, and once they open the seeds are generally met by ash and ground free of competing vegetation, allowing the Gloamroot to spring up and dominate space early in its life.
Growth Rate & Stages
Gloamroot grows quickly at first, with saplings springing up from a sprout to three feet in a single year, but by their fifth year they've slowed to less than a foot per year.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
The lumber of the Gloamroot is extremely heavy and dense, to the point of being difficult to work with. Furniture or tools made from it are made to last though, and can command good prices. Properly dried, the needles of the tree are also valuable, as they can be brewed into a tea that can alleviate nausea. The root of Gloamroot is probably the single most valuable product of the tree. Depending on the preparation method, it can be made into either a Focusing Drug, or a strong hallucinogen.
