Musketeer
Blackpowder weapons are still in the early stages of development, partly because they haven't been around that long and partly because funding for new weapons research tends to focus on either magic or more reliable and easily produced technology. Musketeers are those who've taken the time to learn or be taught the complex requirements necessary to maintain and operate blackpowder weapons without regularly endangering their own lives.
Musketeers have a skill set that's highly coveted by those who can afford their services, and usually learn the trade from another musketeer either in one of the educational institutions across the Crushlands or in the field as part of an army unit or mercenary company. While blackpowder weapons are not yet widespread enough for entire units to employ them, specialists are at the disposal of most major military forces in case a particular target requires great firepower that isn't hampered by magic resistance.
Career
Career Progression
Though training with one blackpowder weapon generalizes well to others, specialty weapons like prototype sniper rifles or the like would only be available at higher class levels.
Other Benefits
You have guns. They shoot.
Perception
Social Status
While Musketeers are admired for their mastering of a difficult skill, people also tend to stand slightly farther away from them and glance about nervously when they're in the vicinity. Every innkeeper has heard at least one story of a misfiring gun burning down an inn and while such accidents are fairly rare, the knowledge that these people carry unstable explosives on them at all times rather colors the perceptions of many people who discover a musketeer is nearby.

Legality
Blackpowder weapons require a license in several major cities, and a number of smaller settlements. Musketeers who want to operate freely learn to be discreet about the exact nature of the services they provide.
