Compis Bath

A compis bath is a pool of water or another liquid with properties that have been affected by a compisceane. They can be found in natural settings, such as hot springs or tidal pools, or in man-made tubs or pools and are used for multiple reasons including relaxation, medical treatment, and punishment.   There are many techniques used in the creation and upkeep of compis bath. The most obvious one is the use of herbs, minerals, or other additives to elicit an effect, but temperature fluctuations allow for constant manipulation of these effects. Baths that exclusively rely on temperature fluctuations are referred to as burning ice baths.   While any compisceane is able to create a compis bath in their own home given the proper materials, they are primarily found in medical facilities, spas, and public bath houses. In modern day these kinds of facilities must submit for routine inspections and compisceanes who work there must be properly trained in order to prevent injury to patients, clients, and the public. Improperly prepared compis baths, or those properly prepared with intent to cause harm, can lead to health complications and even death depending on the energies within the bath.   Some of the earliest compis baths are believed to have been created in the waters of the hot springs in the Newcord Peaks. They were used primarily for healing, most notably to reinvigorate those who were physically exhausted from working in mines.   The Kilthe were known for using compis baths as a punishment for crimes. It was not a method of execution, but rather a way of inflicting an ailment that would cause the convicted pain or other injury. Most commonly this was the cause of chronic skin irritation referred to as convict's scales which led to painful scaling that left the skin slightly purple.   In addition to drinking from the poisoned water of the Aici RiverFollowers of Grey Water have rituals involving compis baths created with the water from the Aici. Small congregations use a normal tub for these rituals, but large temples have pools that are overseen by specially trained compisceanes. The actual contents of these baths are a religious secret, but it widely known that ground Bonasa Lyscale is likely used in some way.
