Destral
Timeline Note: Destral is a city that is constantly growing, changing, and innovating. This article is written from the perspective of Destral in 275. In the future, some things are subject to change.A young but thriving city that sprouted on the West bank of the Crossroads Lake. Built over junkyard-like Ancient grave, Destral is a progressive city home to numerous technological advancements catalyzed by the reverse engineering of Ancient corpses. Destral's location near the center of Legere has allowed it to become a major trade center, further expediting its growth. Over time, this sprawling metropolis has become the cultural heart of Legere. People of all nationalities, even from distant places, come to Destral to work, live, and thrive. Naturally, surrounding kingdoms have been wary or interested in what military applications may come out of Destral, however the Destrian government has always been against the use of their research strictly in military application. While they are not naive in the inevitability of combat technology evolving, the Destral government and scientists within attempt vehemently to promote their technologies primarily as ways to improve the quality of life for all Legerians.
Demographics
Destral is one of the most diverse places in Legere. People of all ethnicities find a place in the sprawling city. Like Legere itself, the majority of the population is human but strong populations of Naga and Dun live in Destral as well. Minorities such as Mylembo and [PH]Carved People can also be found in Destral, depending on their prevalence on the Legere Mainland in a given time period.
The Destrian society has a blend of upper, middle, and lower classes. Upper-class Destrians are likely to live near the center of the city, where they carouse in high society living. Members of this group include wealthy merchants and the famous founders of Destral. Destral's middle class includes many merchants, industry workers, and researchers. Most of the time, the middle class lives in the older brick and mortar residential portion of the city, though some live in the industrial sectors. The lower class of Destral are often times factory workers or are involved in the criminal activity that hides in the shadows of Destral's towers. They are most likely to live in the industrial sector.
Government
Destral is essentially a Geniocratic Oligarchy - a government run by a select few of the smartest members of society. At the early stage of Destral's life, however, it is not truly geniocratic: while the founders are geniuses, they were also here first. The founders run their respective laboratories, and over time as founders pass away, they will be superseded by their most elite protégé.
The Founding Laboratories
Destral was established by six founding laboratories, one for each founding member. These laboratories act like universities, and each oversees an aspect of innovation in the city. The founders, together, act as a council that oversees Destral's day-to-day. The founding laboratories are as follows:The Institute for Technological Elementalism
Let us posit, therefore, that with the help of Ancient Technology we can replicate the magic of an Elementalist! With this technology we could create fireballs, walls of ice, or sparks of electricity! The Institute for Technological Elementalism seeks to replicate magic similar to that of a Phovezilan Elementalists with Ancient technology. They create energy like fire and electricity with their inventions and thus help the people of Destral by providing heat, water, and power generation. The Gun Guards formation began in this group. This laboratory was founded by Li Huo, an isutan woman with a firey personality. This laboratory is most analogus to electrical engineers.
The Laboratory of Spacial Research
The Laboratory of Spacial Research looks out from the towers of Destral to the cosmos beyond, seeking the great secrets of the universe. With their understanding of the workings of the cosmos, this laboratory has excelled in creating inventions related to travel, communication, pocket-dimensions and even demiplanes. Though enigmatic, this laboratory constantly expands Legere's understanding of the broader cosmos. This laboratory was founded by Phaendar Hironimus Draft, a phovezilan man known for his philisophical interests and mysterious tower abode. This laboratory is most analogus to astrophysicists. The Destrian Centre for Medical Advancement
The most compassionate of all of the Destrian laboratories is teh Destrian Centre for Medical Advancement. This working group organizes hospitals and medical clinics, and prioritizes the wellbeing of the people. The innovations this group has made in healthcare has improved the quality of life for not only Destrians, but for people all across Legere. This laboratory was founded by Azalea Abernathy, a female dun known for her genuine kindness and compassion. This laboratory is most analogus to schools of nursing and hospitals. The Laboratory for Hard Light Research and Engineering
The Laboratory for Hard Light Research and Engineering focuses on Destral's foundations: the Ancients, and the strange technology they used. They seek to better understand the fundimentals of the Ancient Tech that the rest of Destral eagerly uses for their own whims and recreate it in its purest form. While this is a difficult endevor, this laboratory has provided Destral with innovations such as walls, bridges, and windows of Hard Light, shields, and force fields. This laboratory was founded by Caroline Constella, a Corgathian woman who is known to be enraptured by history. This laboratory is most analogus to innovative materials science. The Centre for Destrian Cultural Engineering
The Centre for Destrian Cultural Engineering has a major roll in overseeing the infrastructure and growth of Destral. This laboratory designs new infrastructure, approves buildings, and facilitates law enforcement throughout Destral. They also have a role to play in agriculture and the import and export of natural resources. While some might see it as a heavy hand on Destral's creative liberties, others view this laboratory as a necissary to keeping order within a chaotic metropolis. This laboratory was founded by Cyrus Isaac Vandervitch III, a half-endalan man known for his stern personality. This laboratory is most analogus to civil engineering. The Institute for Alchemical Engineering
The bubbling vats and steaming smokestacks of the Institute of Alchemical Engineering are vital to the growth of Destral behind the scenes. The products created by this laboratory are used every day by regular Destrians as household cleaning products, as well as by other industrial buildings to supply their research and production. Whether it is mass-producing healing potions for the adventurer's guild, creating a new dish detergent to improve the lives of working-class Destrians, or synthesizing fuels used by the elemental engineers, this laboratory's innovations are crutial. This laboratory was founded by Radium "Ray" Josiah Radcliff, a corgathian man who's rumored to be loosing his mind.Non-founding Laboratories
As Destral grows and new endevors want to be pursued, new laboratories may be founded. Though they will likely not have the social power or ivy-league status of the older labs, they will be important for new ventures. One such laboratory is the Destrian Zoological Institute, which seeks to preserve the wildlife of LegereInfrastructure
The infrastructure of Destral is a testament to its innovation. The city is circular, extending outwards from the center, where the ancient grave was located. As you move outward from the city center, building infrastructure becomes newer. Buildings in the center, dubbed the Residential District, are
