Mylembo
Fungal-folk
The Cordywoods are home to the fourth and most elusive sentient race of Legere; the Mylembo. These fungal-folk are extremely peaceful, and completely oblivious to the happenings of Legere’s primary continent. The Mylembo stick to the Isle of Kel, where they spend their days lounging about their whimsical forest and consuming hallucinogenic moss off of trees and other surfaces.
The Mylembo live in giant hollowed-out mushrooms, a key feature of the Cordywoods. Mylembo themselves are peculiar looking as well- they lack bones entirely, comprised completely of soft chitinous tissue similar to the soft flesh of a mushroom. Mylembo also lack blood, and cannot bleed out. They’re surprisingly hard to kill- with fast regeneration of lost limbs, and quick healing of lacerations, the only way to truly kill one of these hapless mushroom people is by fire. Mylembo are also seemingly immune to all manner of disease, and have a lifespan so long that they haven't even created funeral or burial ceremonies. Many suspect mylembo are biologically immortal.
Interestingly, mylembo flesh is imbued with magical proteins all throughout. Essentially, this allows mylembo to store data in unique quantum states utilizing archons, giving them each an individual "cloud storage" brain. This is what allows mylembo to retain their knowledge even after being cut to pieces and regenerating.
Mylembo are also recognizable by their mushroom-cap like head, small, beady black eyes, and a toothless mouth paired with friendly chubby cheeks.
Mylembo language is completely foreign to outsiders, consisting of what sounds like incoherent mumbling and tongue flapping, but the extreme friendliness and passivity of the Mylembo have proven that proper verbal communication isn’t needed to conduct business with their kind.
