The Tale of Alesandra

Princess Alesandra was, in her time, the heir to the throne of Kennocha. Rumoured to be the most beautiful to ever exist, the most powerful of her kind, she was unfortunately remembered more for the manner of her death, at the hands of the villainous Princess Sameana of Bricriu. Her story is both a cautionary tale about trusting the wrong person, and a guide for the later generations, when the other High Powers begin to emerge.

Summary

Alesandra of Kennocha, the crown princess of her kingdom, welcomed Sameana of Bricriu as one of her attendants when the other princess came to her, begging for help and claiming her father had thrown her out of the kingdom for being too weak. Once Sameana gained Alesandra's trust, she spent several years determining that the rumours of Alesandra's power were, in fact, true. She then killed the princess to steal her power, but not before Alesandra cursed her with her dying breath, so that no matter what form Sameana bore, she would always be recognizable by her distinctive silver eyes. Adriana Kelwyn, Alesandra's closest friend and rumoured lover, swore an Oath of Revenge against Sameana, one that would be passed down through her descendants after Adriana died before Sameana did.

Historical Basis

The tale is entirely true, though some twist the events slightly. Sameana tells the story differently, painting Alesandra as the villain and herself as the victim. However, few believe her side of things, and for the most part the events stay constant no matter how the story is told.

Spread

Everyone in Nameria knows the tale of Alesandra. It is most widely known in Kennocha and Taliesin, but every other kingdom also tells the tale.

Variations & Mutation

Princess Sameana spread her own version later on, but it never left Bricriu. Over time, some of the events were exaggerated or distorted, but as Adriata Kelwyn recorded it almost immediately, there was little dramatic distortion.

Cultural Reception

The tale is remembered and told everywhere. It is one of the first told to children, and is recorded in many different forms across the different kingdoms.

In Art

Many tapestries and painting depict the legend, particularly in Kennocha. An immense statue in the Kennochan capital is dedicated to Alesandra.
