Saturday Legends Campaign E00 Notes

General Summary

Campaign Brief: South Crossing & the River Festival

Tone & Story Style

Our campaign is grounded in Our Little Corner of the World, with narrative shades of Epic Journey. We are exploring the human condition through a poetic lens, with serious and dark tones, emotional depth, and a high risk, high reward ethos.

Core Themes & Arcs

Players are most interested in stories centered around:

  • Personal Growth – characters evolving over time, from small beginnings.
  • Uncovering Forgotten Truths – mystery, hidden history, and ancient secrets.
  • Hope in the Darkness – light surviving against despair or corruption.
  • Found Family – building deep bonds through shared struggle.
  • Magic as a Theme – rare, subtle, and mysterious.

The Setting: South Crossing

  • A river town in the Dales, built around the legendary River Festival.
  • The bridge stops halfway across the river—a relic of the Thaumaturgic Empire. Rumors surround it, as do ancient superstitions.
  • The Festival features week-long costumes, strange traditions, and may hold back a deeper threat no one talks about.
  • Barleytown, nearby, is home to the Red Marshals.
  • The village is a place of rural magic, deep nature reverence, and old secrets.

Mythos, Magic & Mystery

  • Magic is rare, low-power, and suspicious—something to be learned or tinkered with.
  • Sacred elements:
  • A Tree of Rebirth or Wishing Tree believed to hold spirits or sacred power.
  • The river is possibly protected or sacred, feeding the ancient tree on its banks.
  • Reincarnation is a common belief—souls may return through natural objects.
  • Player-led mysteries include:
  • Learning about the Children of Twilight
  • Fire-based spiritual forces or demons
  • Ancient magical texts and relics
  • Tinkering with lost magical objects

Characters & Ties

  • A blacksmith from South Crossing.
  • Travelers and vendors visiting for the River Festival.
