The Verdelen River

Over several centuries the small network of interconnected streams and lakes coursing through Legalaia eroded enough of the landmass to divide the continent in two. 
Although it did not always have a name, once cartographers began to map Legalaia they soon came to realise the land mass was split in two by the large river.
After this revelation, the cartographers began to call it The Divide, however as decades passed, the name slowly evolved into The Verdelen. 
Verdelen was an ancient word, used to describe the division of a family.
