The Voyage Begins
2 Marpenoth, The Year of Twelve Warnings (1494 DR)
Fell Farm, 2 miles outside of Saltmarsh, The Sword Coast
The adventuring group made of the elven sorcerer Ahroheim, the human rogue Edmont Patch, the tabaxi wizard Luca Featherbone, and the dragonborn cleric Skylar Kiltrin heard a voice pleading for help.
The others were still wondering how Skylar, who had been killed by undead knights in Argynvostholt, had returned. Also, the paladin Froath and his friend Taraka, a kenku ranger was nowhere to be seen.
Moments before, they had just left Argynvostholt in the middle of the night and was on their way to find the Wizard of Wine Winery, when they encountered Strahd von Zarovich. He tried to stop the group from leaving when the gypsy, Ezmeralda stabbed Strahd through the back. She also held a silver amulet to Strahd, who screamed upon seeing it.
A blinding wave of light suddenly spread out from the amulet just as a thick mist engulfed them all.
When the mist dissipated, Ahroheim, Luca, Edmont saw Skylar standing nearby. The dragonborn cleric of Bahamut was alive and appeared just as he did moments before the undead knights had slain him.
As the fog cleared, they found themselves standing outdoors. Pouring rain drenched them all. The smell of the ocean drifted in the air which indicated they were somewhere along a coast.
Looking around, they couldn't tell where they were. With the cloudy sky about to darken, the group knew it was just moments past sunset.
Turning to where they heard someone scream for help, they saw a small house with a thatch roof. A nearby field and a smaller thatched building indicated they were at a small farm.
They spotted two people, a human man and a human woman dressed in bluish robes. Wooden staffs lay on the wet grass within their reach. Both were forcefully holding down a dragonborn dressed in commoner's clothes at the edge of a small pool of muddy water. They seemed to be torturing the dragonborn by drowning him!
Also nearby was a female tiefling, similarly dressed in commoners' clothes. She was being held back by three people also wearing blue robes. On their robes was an emblazoned a cresting wave with two red eyes. Another man pointing a staff at the two holding the dragonborn ordered them to drown the dragonborn as sacrifice to Olhydra.
Edmont Patch recognized them as cultists of Olhydra, vile worshippers of the evil elemental princess of evil water. Edmont recalled meeting pirates and seafaring raiders who served as the elemental princess's agents. Those who worshipped Olhydra were known to redden the sea with the blood of those they mercilessly killed as sacrifices to their evil deity.
If these were worshippers of Olhydra's, then the four of them were all back in Faerûn!
How long had they all been gone, they wondered. They had only spent less than a tenday in Barovia but it seemed longer.
The cultist noticed the four adventurers standing nearby. One turned to regard them all. "Leave us be, strangers. This sacrifice to Olhydra is none of your concern. Leave now or you too will be gloriously sacrificed to Olhydra!"
The four looked to one another, trying to decide what to do next.
