Midgard Ironcore of Eartheart Character in Legacy of the Realms | World Anvil

Midgard Ironcore of Eartheart

Midgard was born into the Ironcore Clan in The Great Rift in Eastern Shaar in 1295 DR. The Ironcore Clan was considered to be one of the most prominent clans in the settlement of Eartheart. Many in the clan become clerics of Moradin and were considered to be personally favored clerics by the All-Father himself.   Midgard had been a devout worshipper of Moradin from a very early age. It was known in his clan that Midgard was going to follow in the footsteps of his father, Thyrim the Blessed, who was the clan's Revered Sonnlinor, or highest-ranking cleric in the church of Moradin. Midgard spent most of his time in the church watching his father and the other clerics go about their duties or perform ceremonious rituals on holy days.   Midgard's faith would be tested, however, early in his adult life. Midgard had been married and had children when a horrible sickness swept through his clan and his clan only. All attempts at divine healing and the use of potions or curative ointments proved fruitless. Despite all prayers and sacrifices to Moradin, Midgard couldn't save his family and clan. Even his father's powerful spells weren't able to stop the sickness from spreading and claiming almost everyone in the Ironcore Clan. In time, even Thyrim, succumbed to the magical sickness.   Midgard soon discovered that it was the Cult of the Dragon who was behind the plague that had wiped out his entire clan. It seemed the Cult of the Dragon had created a magical disease that couldn't be cured by any divine spells or potions. From a cultist Midgard had captured, he learned of a unique salve that could cure anyone afflicted. It was too late, unfortunately, to save anyone else in the clan except himself. Midgard also learned that it was because of what his father, Thyrim, had done to a powerful sect of the Cult of the Dragon during his days as an adventurer that had caused the dragon cultists to exact their revenge on Thyrim and his entire clan.   Feeling betrayed by Moradin for not having protected his clan, Midgard renounced his faith and left the Great Rift. But, as he found out many years later during his journey throughout Faerûn, the All-Father never renounced Midgard and still worked through him. With his faith renewed, Midgard spent many years traveling the Realms. He has recently joined the ranks of the Harpers, helping those he can while trying to rid the Realms of the Cult of the Dragon.   To this day, Midgard still grieves for his wife and children as well as the loss of his clan. Exacting revenge on members of the Cult of the Dragon has brought him some relief, but as long as life is threatened by evil, he plans to stand in the way.
