In Vaalus, a force of military deserters, criminals, and convicted heretics six thousand strong is marshaled at the edge of the Desolation. They are marched into the wasteland under the Kassinite banner, their offences forgiven in exchange for a binding oath: to stem the tide of the Blight, or die trying. None ever return.
