Ysberinge
The capital of Aldernord, Ysberinge is arguably the largest and wealthiest city in Kataris, if not the world, home to some three hundred thousand souls. Said to be built on the ruins of the ancient Katari city of Kato Varos, Ysberinge marks the place where Erastes Tideborn landed on Kataris in 688AK. Criss-crossed by canals and bridges, the city extends some way out into the tidal flats, with great foundations sunk into the mire standing as a testament to the skill of the Alderni architects and builders. Once a great port, over the centuries the bay has slowly silted up despite the best efforts of the Guild of Engineers, and the heaviest of ships can no longer dock here; where cargo must be shipped beyond the shores of Kataris it is typically sent in barges along the coast to the deep-water port of Overmeer. This has done little to dent the economic power of the city, however, and its bustling markets are renowned across the world as the foremost place of commerce.
