Fathomless Fastness

Deep beneath the waves, at the very bottom of the oceans, exists a secret realm that bridges the material world and the Dreaming Depths, in which the entities known as the Fathomless dwell. These Dwellers in the Deep are sometimes said to be older than the gods themselves; it is they with whom the Sahuagin are said to strike dark bargains, and to whom superstitious sailors make furtive offerings in the hope of securing safe passage across the ocean. Few have ever visited this place and returned; it is said to take the form of a vast ruined city in which the shades of those whom the Fathomless claim are imprisoned for their inscrutable purposes. The tales of a number of seafaring cultures say all who die at sea, should their bodies be not recovered, will be claimed by the Fathomless Fastness unless their souls are protected in some way.
