Tombe de Lanceor

This landmark, a couple hours’ ride from Ciren- cester, is known henceforth as the Tomb of Lanceor. Golden letters are on the side: “Here lieth Lanceor the King’s son of Ireland, what at his own request was slain by the hands of Balin.” And on another side, “His lady, Colombe, and paramour, slew herself with her love’s sword for dole and sorrow.” And on a third side, “Here shall fight the two best knights in the world.”
