En Césarée Maxime :

Vortigern marches with his army from Glevum to the Thames, and then follows it to London, sending messengers to all local leaders to hasten to join his army with the available men. In London, he is greeted by an army of the eastern tribes, Iceni foremost among them, and barbarian mercenaries from the continent, called the Saxons, under their chieftains Hengest and Horsa.

Thus reinforced, the British and Saxon army marches north against the Picts and Brigantes. Battle is met near the city of Lincoln, and it is a great victory for Vortigern as his forces drive the enemy across the Humber.
