Ngahere Koura
-- the 'Golden Prairie'

The ngeru-tangata (“en/GAIR/roo tahn/GAH/tah” — catfolk) are strong allies of the ani-yunwiya (“ah/NEE/yun/WE/ya” — lion-centaurs), especially those who have established the towns which dot the Golden Prairie. The ani-yunwiya recognize that there is currently great change in progress as they turn more to farming and staying put compared to the hunter-gatherer times of old. As one might expect, the elders have a harder time accepting this change and constantly warn that this will lead to imbalance and the spirits will be displeased — crucial considerations of their ancient culture. While the younger members of a tribe show enough respect not to speak out against these notions held by the conservative elders, they are likely to not admonish their ngeru-tangata friends who speak out on such matters. But the elder usually ignore the ‘foolhardy catfolk’ anyways.

Though most of these people don’t revel in combat, it has been many millennia during which they have had to fight to survive: the Golden Prairie intersects with Vigooria to the north and its fekete sarkany (black dragons) overlords and their soldiers which include nagans (snakefolk), gaalken (goblins), and kanarok (trolls the Kingdoms of Deception to the south, ruled by the inconceivably malicious and powerful illusionists known as rakshasa (tiger-demons) bent on enslaving or eating intelligent beings; and vámpír (vampires) which are some form of powerful undead subsisting on the blood of the ngeru-tangata and/or eszaki ember & Sandwalkers (northern & southern humans) from which they somehow originated.

The fourth border of this sweeping plain is the Sea of Ales to the east. The ani-yunwiya traditionally don’t enjoy being on the water since their muscular bulk means its very difficult for them to stay afloat. The ngeru-tangata, however, have taken more and more to the Sea of Ales as a means of trade with the friendly nations of Anaptun Abra (NNE) and Gloridia (NE). The catfolk are also not normally great fans of being immersed in water, but they seem to culturally be obsessed with remaining clean and presenting themselves in fine-looking garments. (They have long since evolved past using their rough tongues to self-groom.)

There’s been rumor as of late in the northern lands of a small nomadic clan of sentient felines in the Golden Prairie the size of housecats called the ngeru-iti (“en/GAIR/roo EE/tee” — mini catfolk). Stories speak of some magical experiment or blessing of the gods which either shrunk ngeru-tangata to housecat size or suddenly bestowed great intellect upon the otherwise mundane creatures which inhabit much of the known world. They are said to all possess innate magical physical capabilities allowing them to ignore their lack of opposable thumbs. Though seemingly benevolent when encountered by the ngeru-tangata and ani-yunwiya, the ngeru-iti are remarkably secretive.
