Attributes

As previously mentioned, most Tests in game are the combination of an Active Skill's ranks and a Linked Attribute. Since the Attributes are fewer in number than Skills and can apply to a variety of situations, let's go over those first. Each character has eight primary Attributes, the first four of which are Physical Attributes and the other four are Mental Attributes.

Physical Attributes

  • Body (B): represents a character’s sturdiness and health. Larger creatures tend to have more Body. In addition to increasing the amount of armor and other gear one can readily wear and haul, Body is used to resist injury and more quickly recover from it.
  • Agility (A): inclusive of both upper- and lower-body coordination and balance, Agility is used for intentional, pre-meditated movement, and is thus the primary Attribute used when trying to hit enemies in both melee and ranged combat. It’s also linked to move Stealth Skills.
  • Reaction (R): while Agility represents coordination for intended accuracy, Reaction is used to avoid being hit in combat when Dodging or making defensive maneuvers. It’s also often used in place of Agility when the character is, understandably, trying to react to something (like avoiding falling off the boat example on the previous page).
  • Strength (S): represents both burst power and stamina. Combined with Body, Strength allows you to carry more gear. It increases the bonus damage you may apply with weapons (some lending themselves more to the use of additional force). It’s also used when trying to deflect or absorb some incoming force with shields.

Mental Attributes

  • Charisma (C): is one’s force of personality. It’s used when Negotiating for better prices, Fast-talking one’s way into an exclusive restaurant, Conning a guard into giving up information, and the like. Characters with either high or very low Charisma often stand out from the crowd in social situations.
  • Intuition (I): represents a character’s instinct and awareness. Primarily linked to Perception (which shouldn’t be underestimated), Intuition is also used in Parrying — knowing when and how an opponent will lash out before they do.
  • Logic (L): is one’s intellect, memory and analytical ability. It’s linked to Engineering skills and applying Healing like bandages, cleaning wounds, making splints, and knowing what foods and herbs assist in recovery. High starting Logic also increases the known number of Knowledge Skills.
  • Willpower (W): represents one’s perseverance, the ability to keep going despite frustrations. Though not linked to many Active Skills, it can help the mundane (non-magical) to resist a variety of spells, and spellcasters will all benefit from Willpower’s ability to focus/center themselves while casting or praying for spells.
In addition to the four Physical and four Mental Attributes, there are a couple Special Attributes. These include Luck, Magic, and Initiative.

Special Attributes

  • Luck (Lk): unlike the other Attributes, Luck is divided into Maximum and Current Luck. It’s a resource which characters can spend to tip situations in their favor and it refreshes as the character follows their motivations and aspirations. In some situations, one or more points of Maximum Luck can be ‘burned’ to miraculously avoid death or cause a remarkable success against all odds.
Below are the costs and effects of spending Current Luck:

Players can additionally request the opportunity to spend their character’s Current Luck to perform amazing feats in a variety of situations. Explain your intended action and the GM will indicate how much Current Luck is needed to make the attempt.

  • Magic (M): is a measure of a Mage’s ability to channel their energy into spell effects, or the maximum number of Powers an Adept can learn. Learn more about this Special Attribute in the Magic section starting on page #.
  • Initiative (Init): is your character’s Intuition + Reaction. When rolling for Initiative (which determines in what order everyone acts in combat), roll this dice pool and add the number of dice rolled for the Initiative Score.
