The Groaning Table

The Groaning Table is an organisation responsible for ensuring its premises provide the highest standards of hospitality across all Ankaros .
Run by an extended family of halflings, its members own and maintain the majority of inns and taverns across the kingdom.
An establishment must consistently meet expectations in several categories to keep its membership of The Groaning Table:

• cleanliness - the establishment must maintain a sufficiently high standard of hygiene and cleanliness in all its public and private areas
• subsistence - the quality of food & drink served in an establishment must meet defined standards, including freshness of ingredients, variety of fare and consistent pricing
• accomodation - a Groaning Table establishment must offer at least two levels of accomodation: a basic tier, priced at no higher than 1 gold piece per night's stay, and an upper tier, priced at no more than 3 gold pieces per night. The basic tier must provide a comfortable bed, clean bed clothes and a wash basin, whilst the upper tier includes everything in the basic tier as well as a lounge area and a private washroom
• entertainment - the establishment must only provide entertainment that has been endorsed by The Groaning Table
• civility - the establishment must comply with all laws of Ankaros, and any bylaws or associated rules imposed by the town or settlement it is part of

Establishments are inspected twice a year by members of the Carraway family, who have the power to remove an establishment's membership if the standards above are not met.
An establishment that is a member of the organisation requires to pay a yearly fee to The Groaning Table, as well as a percentage of its profits. In return, it gains the organisations's seal of approval, as well as access to a rota of top-quality entertainers and the finest ingredients in the land.
An establishment operating outside the protection of The Groaning Table may find itself the subject of rumour, scandal and more than the occasional disturbance ...

Structure

The aristocratic Carraway clan own and operate The Groaning Table.
An extended halfling family comprising sixteen members, it is headed by Morrow Carraway, a venerable old halfling patriarch.

Assets

The Groaning Table takes a percentage of profits from all its member premises. As such, it has access to a sizeable fortune (in excess of 500,000 GP), held within the vault beneath The Head Of The Table in Gyral's Hold.
