Region Summary

Brief introductions to the major regions of Lasair

City-States Region

Bounded on the north by the Titan Wall, on the east by The Great Plateau, south by the Shifting Jungle and with the sea to the west, the City-States region of Lasair is the most concentrated area of human development and population on the continent. The region is dominated by a number of cities associated to each other by an almost thousand-year-old pact , watched over and protected by the Mages.

Savage Lands

To the north of the Titan Wall lies a land of rolling hills interspersed with low-lying wetlands, traversed by enormous leathery-hided creatures called Hornbeasts (Bor'akk in the Orc tongue) moving in an eternal circle of migration. Between the stern cliffs of the western coast and the towering mountains to the east lie a few sparse forests, usually lying along the larger north-south hill ranges. Closer to the coast, the land remains flatter, and dryer, but to the east rainwater tends to drain into the lowlands. This doesn't create marshes, but still gives the land a squishy, soft texture that makes it difficult for foot-bound travelers.

Mage Islands

Early in the coast's post-Dragonscourge history, several mages took steps to acquire lands that could always remain in the hands of their brethren even in times of trouble. They negotiated with several of the burgeoning cities, trading services in exchange for land: magical protection in exchange for ownership of a cluster of islands just off the coast. Residing in the gulf originating at the mouth of the Lasair River, the islands have come to be the central home of most of the mages in the land.

The Great Plateau

Rising above the continent higher than anything but the mountains, the Great Plateau is the result of a long-ago, cataclysmic, volcanic eruption. The plateau's volcanic soil is rich; colorful grasslands cover the warm southern steppes, and fertile farmland fills the land along the banks of the rivers that run through the temperate middle, feeding the City-States. In the cool north stands the Il'yrian Forest, home of one of the remaining Elvish settlements.

The Scarred Midlands

Created by the most devastating single magical attack unleashed during the Dragonscourge, this canyon glows with an eerie and poisonous light, the jungle it cuts through is populated with trees that never quite seem to stay in the same place, and the sea at the end boils with an eerie light and smell. Raw magic flows through the canyon, corrupting the land within and nearby, giving a semblance of sentience to the very earth and all that grows there.

The Desolation

A land that has suffered from nearly every catastrophe possible, this scarred and barren land holds almost no natural life. The devastated ruins of an ancient empire lay within this broken land, which draws the bravest of adventurers seeking out artifacts of the war that destroyed it.

Firelands

Choked with ash, skies darkened by clouds of soot, land crisscrossed with scorched trails of burning elementals, the Firelands stand isolated in the Northeast corner of the continent. Utterly alien to humans, the Firelands have stood apart from the rest of Lasair since the days of the Giants' fall.

High Ice

Very little exists atop the glaciers that sit atop the land at the farthest northern reaches of the continent, and rarely does anybody attempt to look. Nonetheless, this sparse and snow-blinded region hides the occasional cold-adapted creature, and legends speak of hidden fortresses cloaked by the snow and ice.
