Horned Peaks in Lasair | World Anvil

Horned Peaks

Rising above the deserts of the Southern Wastes, the craggy, red-tinged mountains stand as a foreboding landmark to those crossing the wastes. The iron-rich mountains could serve as a plentiful resource for the Mina'Satie Bay area, but the Horned Peaks aren't just named for their shape - they are also named after the bands of Minotaurs that lay claim to the ridge.

Geography

Stretching from The Glow to the southwest across The Southlands, the Horned Peaks stand a silent watch over the Korth'an Forest and the Southern Wastes before fading to a series of low-lying hills. The mountains themselves were formerly the southern reaches of the Bloodpeak Mountains (and the islands of the Tempest Reefs were likewise the very tip of those mountains). When the final impact of the Dragonscourge crashed through the mountain range, creating The Glow, the mountain range was bisected.   The Horned Peaks are rich in iron, resulting in a reddish tone that extends through most of the range. The mountains are not high enough in elevation for snow to cap the peaks, so the erosion of rain and wind is constantly exposing fresh rock to the elements. Many passes and crevices are full of spoil from worn-away rock faces; the boulders and smaller rocks are often used to build homes and other structures by the Minotaur bands that populate the mountains.   As the mountains start to break up into foothills a pass can be navigated through them. This pass is highly trafficked by caravans passing through to the Mina'Satie Bay. The presence of the minotaurs in the area causes most caravans to travel with a significant escort - an job opportunity that many adventurers take advantage of by traveling to the small port settlement on the north side of the Wastes.

Populations

Several bands of Minotaurs make their homes throughout the mountains. They battle with each other on occasion, and will frequently raid caravans passing through the southern pass. They will sometimes make forays into the edge of the Korth'an Forest but are generally repelled by sentries of the Korth'an Conclave.

I love that they're tinged with red because of the rich iron content. They sound like like they are really stunning to look at.
