Shield of Prismatic Light
Mechanics & Inner Workings
Requires attunement. Three times a day, duration of ten minutes, the user can use a bonus action to activate the shield's embedded magic crystal. When activated, the crystalline sphere in the center of the shield glows, coating the shield in a layer of tangible energy of one color of the Prismatic Wall and/or Prismatic Spray colors.
While active, the shield provides the following benefits:
- The shield-bearer may use a bonus action to make an improvised weapon attack against an opponent within five feet. The shield deals 1d4+STR bludgeoning damage. The target of the attack must then make a DC15 DEX save. On a failed save, the target takes 3d6 elemental damage of the shield's current color (Red = Fire, Orange = Acid, Yellow = Lightning, Green = Poison, Blue = Cold, Indigo = Radiant, Violet = Necrotic).
- Using a reaction, the shield-bearer can expand the wall of light beyond the borders of the shield to block an incoming ranged spell attack. Any incoming elemental damage from a ranged spell that corresponds to the shield's current color is halved for the user and allies within five feet. The shield retracts at the beginning of the user's next turn. This feature must then recharge, requiring a 4 or higher on a d6 at the start of each of the player's subsequent turns.
