Galanar Einhadrín

Galanar Einhadrín

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

A tall, slender Half-Elf. Wiry, but not too buff.

Facial Features

His face is angular and elegant, like an Elf's--with high cheekbones, a well defined jaw, and slightly pointed ears--yet not so clean cut--he almost always sports a bit of stubble spread evenly on his face, and laugh lines gently touch upon round amber eyes that often seem to glow with arcane energy when the light hits them right. His hair is black, thick, and loosely curly.

Identifying Characteristics

A nasty scar on his right upper arm, just where his deltoid would meet his bicep, as if something with an unnaturally jagged edge had torn through the skin there. Several other scars on his back and legs, and a few small ones on his chest.

Physical quirks

Ambidextrous. A playful smirk is never far from his lips, but that's always softened by a twinkle of the eye or a warm smile for his friends. He walks with a natural (but very practiced) grace built from years of slipping unnoticed in and out of places he has no business being in.

Special abilities

A gifted thief, Galanar can swindle enemies through word or trickery, but his true skill lies in weaving the strands of raw magic that permeate the natural world through song and string.

Apparel & Accessories

Just as comfortable in worn out, old clothes as he is in elegant, pristine dress--but whether it's rags or riches, they're always matched to the best of his ability. Appearance isn't everything, but it certainly doesn't hurt for someone in his profession. Ideally, he'd be dressed "hella fly" which is a phrase that he totally made up himself and didn't get from anywhere else. Currently, he wears a mithril breastplate under a fine shirt, and trousers, which are fastened with a belt. On his feet are knee-high brown leather boots, and over it all he wears a leather jacket.

Specialized Equipment

On one hip he carries a scimitar that sings through the air as it strikes with an unnatural speed, and on the other hip he carries his arcane focus--a beautiful, ornately crafted lyre gifted to him by his mother. The lyre is made of a rich black ebony with delicate scrollwork wrought in pure gold upon the arms, depicting ancient stories of love, war, and magic, all fading into a scattered starry field along the length of the soundbox. When arcane energy is channeled through it, the gold glows bright and the stories in the scrollwork almost seem to come to life. Its magical properties keep it from suffering any wear or weathering throughout the ages, and it never goes out of tune.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Galanar was born in the city of Vaerskald, to a mother who was held in high regard amongst the Elvish nobility as the sole heir of House Einhadrín, and a human father who served in the ranks of the Upright as a Paladin of Kelemvor. He lived with them until the age of ten, until a traumatic event took almost everything from him, the details of which only one other person in the world knows. From his mother he was left an ebony lyre, gilded with stories, and a name that stretched back to the founding of the city. From his father, he was left burning hatred and a desire for vengeance.   Karst found Galanar on the back doorstep of The Second Breakfast--broken, shivering in the rain as the life was slowly fading from him. A grandmaster thief he was, but the old Dwarf had a wealth of love in his heart for the downtrodden, especially the sons of dear friends. He took him in and nursed him back to health. As soon as Galanar could walk again, he put a lockpick in his left hand and began teaching him how to blend in everywhere, use his naturally defiant tongue as a blade more versatile than any knife or sword, and most importantly, how to live.   As the years went by and Galanar grew into a witty, boastful, and if anyone asked him--devilishly handsome--half-Elf, he never forgot where he came from. His mother always in the back of his mind and the center of his heart, he began to practice the craft of his ancient House. He rediscovered his love for song and lyre, and soon after honing his skill, the gift of magic flowed naturally from his tongue and his fingers.   Eventually, as it had captured the Elves in the time before Vaerskald was a concept in any Dwarf's mind, the wanderlust took a hold of him, and he took his leave of Karst and all he had known, always with the knowledge that he had a bed, a fire, and an old friend to welcome him back any time he needed. He had already learned the basics of fighting through his upbringing as a thief, but on his journeys (much to his own surprise) he took to swordplay, and even involved a shield--any proper thief would be absolutely mortified at the thought, and Karst reminds him of that every day he sees the "unnecessary weight" of a rounder that Galanar carries on his arm. He took to these weapons so well that he even incorporated the arcane arts in his fighting, his song not only inspiring the people he chose to fight with, but intimidating his enemies.   To this day Galanar remains devoted to helping the down-and-out, rebelling against oppressive authority whenever he can, righting the wrongs done to him, and helping his friends live a little.

Education

His mother would have preferred he learn the histories and sciences from books that scattered the great halls and libraries of the nobles in Vaerskald, but life had other plans for Galanar.   Through Karst, he learned all he needed to survive in the world. How to read, write, steal, and everything someone would need to know to get themselves out of trouble. Galanar can generally manage his own affairs financially, and hasn't racked up any debt, but he never truly learned the business side of the coin like his mentor had.

Employment

Legally, he's the entertainer on retainer for The Second Breakfast. Illegally--well, why would you ask such a thing? All of Galanar's actions are completely compliant with every law the council has written, down to the letter! Go ahead! Audit him! See if he cares!

Accomplishments & Achievements

Galanar has faced all manner of threats and won the day. He's single-handedly slain a Manticore, shouted off several extremely hilarious puns, and has won a drinking contest against an alcoholic Goliath.   Rumors say all it takes for him to woo someone is a song and a wink. Who started those rumors, you ask? Well, it seems to be a mystery.

Failures & Embarrassments

No matter how much armor he puts on, nor how dexterous he is, he somehow manages to get bested in battle quite often. He can go toe to toe with a seasoned veteran, but his success in battle seems to always depend on how much luck he can get away with stealing from the universe.

Mental Trauma

[Redacted]

Intellectual Characteristics

He's streetwise, has a good sense of direction, and knows how to use his hands. A musician by trade and a bard by tradition and art, he knows the workings of magic and music on a deep, instinctual, almost primal level, if not so much of the theory behind either.

Morality & Philosophy

"Steal from the rich, treat yourself a bit, and definitely give to the poor. Tear down oppression where you see it, and don't be afraid to get your hands dirty to do so. Oh and never forget to have a little fun."--Karst to Galanar.

Taboos

Senseless murder, systematic oppression, parents who think they own their children, etc.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

The classics: revenge, glory, and stories. He wouldn't mind a bit of gold or loot thrown in as well.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Galanar is an adept bard and an adept thief. He's streetwise, but maybe not the most booksmart amongst his friends.

Likes & Dislikes

Loves: A good drink, quality time with friends, a romp in the bedroom (or wherever the opportunity may present itself), and generally as much goofing off as he can get away with. He has a soft spot for most people, but a joking exterior makes it difficult to access that vulnerability.   Hates: Fathers, pretentiousness, and being bored.

Virtues & Personality perks

Galanar always, to a fault, will fight for those who are down-and-out. Once you've wormed your way past his armor (which admittedly is difficult to do), you have a loyal friend for life. He genuinely loves to perform and entertain to lift others' burdens.

Vices & Personality flaws

Galanar has a short temper--he lets things get to him more easily than they should. Therefore, as loyal as he is, so can he hold a grudge--it is nearly impossible for him to forgive any serious wrong done to him. Though his heart is kind, it's very difficult for him to let anyone in.

Hygiene

Galanar bathes and keeps himself as well groomed as possible. Bad smells are his bane and he wouldn't be caught dead not taking care of himself.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Karst The Dopplegang The Greenhornes

Family Ties

House Einhadrín.

Religious Views

Music is almost divine to him, and he recognizes the presence of the gods, but he does not formally worship any of them. He particularly despises the god Kelemvor and Vecna.

Social Aptitude

Extremely charismatic. CONSTANTLY flirtatious. Comfortable performing for crowds. Extremely friendly. Huge talker.

Wealth & Financial state

He can take care of himself, but the gold is shared evenly with the party.

A dashing half-Elven bard with a sword that's almost as quick as his tongue. His favorite hobbies are: music, stealing from the rich, and using humor to shield his heart from his troubled past. His lyre is gold, his hair is black, and his wink is deadly.
