Rhodistrian Desert

The Rhodistrian Desert covers the northern half of the Barama sub-continent in rocky outcroppings and sandy dunes. Little in the way of life survives within the desert save for a mysterious and reclusive society of elves. The masked desert wanderers appear to aid those in need then seem to disappear into the sands without a trace. Unable to verbally communicate with foreign travelers the Elven people have never provided their names. Eventually people took to referring to them as the Rhoda'Elle, or Sand People in the Mirisian Eleven language. Traveler's tales spread of the desert people saving lives, and soon the desert gained a name based on the people who survived there.

Geography

Northern Dunes

Along the northern and western edges of Barama where the desert meets the sea are tall sand dunes that stretch for miles. Sea winds blow in towards the land picking up sand and debris forming the dunes in the process. The northern sands are fine and loose which lead the local common wildlife to adapt to burrowing through the dunes rather than climbing over the towering sands.

Central Wastes

South of the coastal dunes and located in the center of the Rhodistrian Desert are the hard-packed, dry wastes. The wastes are barren and incapable of producing sustainable farmland. Akarren expeditions led to the discovery of stone ruins deep withing the Central Wastes. Hard worn towers and low, eroded walls hint at a time where the wastes were inhabited by a lost civilization, though little evidence is present to point towards their apparent demise. Some Akarren anthropologists attempted to the Rhoda'Elle for information on the history of the ruins to no avail.

The Naroon Mountains

The Naroon Mountain range borders the southern edge of the Rhodistrian Desert, bisecting Barama into its desert and tropical halves. Of the three regions of the desert, the Naroon Mountains are home to the most immediate danger. All throughout the mountains the rocky formations provide the ideal environment for Stone Drakes. While similar in appearance to their Dragon cousins, drakes possess a fraction of the intelligence and none of the reasoning. However, while they are not skilled at diplomacy they are skilled hunters and will easily ambush an adventurer for a tasty snack.
