"The Den Lan'nai Carol"

A short carol sung in parts across the week of Den Lan'nai.

It’s the first night of Den Lan’nai
and cheer is in the air.
The families travel into town
To see the winter fair.
Food stalls, lanterns, and tiny winter bells
Delight our hearts at the festive city square.
On the second day of Den Lan’nai
Friends gather ‘round the fire,
Sharing tales of love and life
And the people they admire.
When the new year comes,
They promise each other,
“I’ll be better”, they dream and aspire.
On the third day of Den Lan’nai
Most people tend to travel.
To family homes on wintry roads,
Through dirt and snow and gravel.
But for those who have nowhere to go,
And by fear of night are frazzled,
Their neighbors open up their homes
To let those fears unravel.
On Solstice night of Den Lan’nai
Everyone stays indoors.
For the longest night of the year
Is the ancient spirit Fyrnore’s.
Draw the curtains and close the doors,
Bundle tight, both you and yours,
Eat your sweets, play games, keep scores,
Just always remember,
Don’t go outdoors.
The fifth day’s dawn of Den Lan’nai
Is loving, brilliant, bright.
The sun shining down on us
Says everything’s alright.
The family’s here, No one was lost,
They hug each other tight.
Now Fyrnore’s threat is gone again.
There’s still more to excite.
The fair’s in town, let’s go back down
And revel in its sight.
The sixth evening of Den Lan’nai
Is lit up with a song.
A chorus performs upon the stage
For the jolly gathered throng.
The crowds dance until the feast
But that wait won’t be long.
Meanwhile young suitors confess their love
While holiday cheer is strong.
On the final night of Den Lan’nai
We’re nearly in the clear.
Just one more family gathering
That’s beautifully austere.
Gifts are given, unwrapped and lifted,
Thankful words for all to hear.
One things for sure, we can all agree,
We’d love to do it all again next year.
