Öby

Pay the ferryman and ye shall too know the joy of being safe out on a lake.

There are all manner of threats out in the world, be it zombies, goblins, or orcs. The best way to not die to such monstrosities is to not get attacked in the first place.

That is often easier than said, particularly for settlements in the Underdark. Öby has its own solution to this, which is to surround themselves with water.

The village is located in the middle of a large underground lake in the upper underdark. It consists mostly of Dwarves and Duergar and it acts as a small trading hub between the surface and the lower caves.

In order to get there one could swim, but swimming in underdark waters is a risky business. A much better, although more expensive, option would be to pay the ferrymen to take you there or back. All in all there are about half a dozen medium sized ferries going across the water.
