The Great Night

Geography

A lake made from a spring and two rivers feeding into it, one of which is the Balferen River.

To the east is the southern half of the Carrowine Forest. Killigan's Keep isn't far from the lake, and the Balferen River serves as a key water source for the werefolk that live there.

The city of Morleth is on its western shore.

It's bigger than the Herald's sea, but it's freshwater, not salt.

Localized Phenomena

Orbs of light can sometimes be seen dancing over the water, both near the shores and in the center of the lake. No one knows what they are, though some believe that they're the work of sirens or mer, trying to lure people in to drown them. They're seen as a warning to stay away, and no one ventures close enough to them to study them.

It gets its name from how, when out on the water, the sky is mysteriously completely black. The stars are obscured by something unseen.

Fauna & Flora

Magical creatures of all kinds live on the eastern shore of the great lake, the non-sentient creatures using it as a water source. Anything from kelpies to deer live in or near the lake. It's believed that there may be mer in the lake, though how they got there is beyond anyone. They keep to themselves enough that most think it's just a myth.
