The Fall of Lanew

• A small group of researchers were trying to create a portal to the afterlife, believing it would lead to immortality. This created the Decay, which killed everyone and everything within a small radius but quickly spread into the surrounding area.

• Happened about 200y ago in 1104

Result:

• The Decay is slowly spreading. It kills anything and everything, and despite the name, nothing is left alive to break down bodies and wildlife. The corpses and plants lay dead but unspoiled.

• If it reaches the river, it'll spread faster and into Noctre.

• They have a decade or two left before it reaches the nearest waterway.
