Harbrer Enclave
The social politics are frustrating at best and infuriating at worst. Pettiness and sabotage are a regular occurrence. Usually, it's in the form of passive-aggressive "pranks," but there have been occasions when the prank was disastrous and malicious. One time, they lost an entire island because one mage was fed up with another's experiments, which kept him up at night. Having had enough, he blew the place to the stars. There was nothing left of the mage and apprentice that lived there.
During the war between Garthspire and Luhren, the Enclave tried to stay out of it, but the Lantern Isles were eventually dragged into it when Garthspire came. They didn't put up a fight and accepted the assimilation so long as they were left alone with their experiments. Garthspire allowed them to maintain their political hierarchy for as long as they served Garthspire.
They participated in the War of the Mages against the mages in the city of Luhren. They won the "war" when Luhren accidentally blew up their own university district. They offered aid in the aftermath as a gesture of peace, and Luhren reluctantly accepted it.
The benefit of allying with Garthspire was access to their universities in Carthin and Hadlen's Rest.
