Death Practices in Noctre
Death plays a large role in Noctre, even among those who do not worship Woqueren. The dead are something to be revered and honored. The grieving practice is seen as a beautiful tradition both in and out of the country. Leta doesn't have as big of a following in Noctre, so death traditions don't usually revolve around her and her Collectors.
Gardeners are selected among family, partners, and friends. A gardener's duty is to honor the deceased by creating a garden over the grave of the dead. It can be a bed of flowers, a rock garden, or a sapling, for example. It's an honor to be selected as someone's gardener, and there can be more than one chosen. It helps with the grieving process, allowing those left behind to have something productive to do in the aftermath while also honoring the dead.
Cult of Woqueren
For those that follow Woqueren, the traditions are very different.
They make sacrifices to Woqueren and drink the blood of the deceased. Those who die naturally or of illness are burned, and the ashes are baked into a flatbread that they share amongst themselves, giving thanks to Woqueren for his guidance. It's taboo to talk about in "polite" company, but rumors have spread that they eat the flesh of the dead in their entirety.
