The Second Chaos

The Second Chaos was the event which transitioned Laeriss from the New Era into the Stable Era. During the Second Chaos, the gods were severed from access to the prime material plane by Them in an attempt to teach the gods a lesson about messing with the natural balance. With the gods abrubtly severed from Laeriss, a second wave of chaos akin to the one released in the division of Vallusios was created. It created portals between the inner planes and unleashed many elementals from the elemental chaos, including sub-elementals like the Aarakocra and genasi. The titans emmitted a wave of elemental energy which transformed many true giants into the different types of giant. In a feeble attempt to break through the blocking shroud created by Them, Vallusios, Ateesia, and Tor accidentally brought celestials, fiends, and different types of dragons to Laeriss. Beings from the Feywild and Shadowfell started crossing onto the mortal plane in great numbers. In the final stage of the Second Chaos, new abberations came from the far planes to invade Laeriss. Even after the gods returned, their power was permanently weakened on Laeriss.

Summary

The second chaos was the time of when They severed the connection between the gods and the prime material plane. They decided that the gods were intervening with Laeriss and the natural balance to a dangerous extent, causing great imbalance on the material plane. They also decided the gods were unfairly using their worshippers and giving them too much of a great power. To punish the gods, They created the null shroud; the shroud permeated the astral sea and completely nullified the power of the gods outside of their own planes. Much like the wave of chaos released from the division of Vallusios, a second great wave of chaos shook the planar-verse as the gods suddenly could no longer access the inner worlds. This new wave of chaos broke many of the barriers between the inner planes, letting beings from the elemental chaos, onto Laeriss. Aarakocra from the elemental plane of air found themselves on the northern Zerion Mountains, genasi of all types appeared across Laeriss, elementals traversed the newly opened portals throughout the world. Waves of elemental energy swept across Laeriss, originating from the locations of the sleeping four titans who acted as gateways to channel the elemental chaos. These waves of energy from the titans transformed many of the true giants into every type of elemental giant. Many of the giants stopped worshipping Enfranis altogether as he no longer had the power to keep the giants from transforming, evolving, and changing. Without the influence of Enfranis, many races of impure giant-kin began to branch off of the true giants. Some of these giants who lost faith in Enfranis would eventually start worshipping Darrünn after the shroud was lifted, slowly transforming them into the ogres. The previously created Feywild and Shadowfell began to partially merge with the prime material plane, bringing undead from the Shadowfell, and fey from the Feywild to Laeriss. Through while the second chaos only created lasting portals between the inner planes, some matter from the outer planes was brought to Laeriss as the gods fought to break through the shroud. Few gods were successful in this endeavor though, celestials were brought from the plane of Vallusios and demons from the plane of Ateesia. Many of these celestials would one day become aasimar and many of these demons would one day become tieflings. The first metallic dragons were brought to Laeriss from the plane of Tor and they quickly started fighting with the chromatic dragons who were already there. Near the end of the hundred year period, a second invasion of aberrations from the far planes came to Laeriss and the rest of the main planar-verse. The first beholders were some of the aberrations who came to Laeriss in the second chaos. Yet even after They finally lifted the shroud, a part of it remained around the mortal plane and the gods lost their once infinite power over Laeriss. Magic became weaker as Mourl lost a part of her connection, Lenesel could no longer create huge enviormental changes without the help of mortals, Mornada could not force giant volcanoes to erupt on command as she could before, and so on. With the influence of the gods permanently dampened, Laeriss began a stage of mostly un-interfered growth and stability as the great dust clouds kicked up by the gods began to settle.

The second chaos is a fairly commonly known event as it completely changed Laeriss and the gods forever. Most Aarakocra, giants, dragons, aasimar, tieflings, and other races brought to Laeriss through the second chaos tell stories of how their ancestors came to be as they are now. Many scholars have researched the second chaos and what transpired in it over the many years since it happened.
