Asrancis Swamp

The Asrancis swamp is a disgusting and terrifying bog of dangers and monsters which can easily tear apart the common person. A blanket of eerie, lavender colored fog covers the entire swamp, tinting everything a light purple and making it near impossible to see more than a few hundred meters ahead at any given point. Those who have entered into the depths of the swamp report horrifying creatures and carnivorous plants big enough to paralyze your entire body with one sting before swallowing you whole. If the Mangrove Marsh seems dangerous it pales in comparison to the swamp, while a thirsty traveler may drink the water of the swamp in their delirium, they will soon find out that the water is highly acidic and extremely poisonous. Few people live within the swamp for its many dangers and horridly uncomfortable humidity but those who do are often considered to have to be mentally ill in order to make that choice willingly. Most of the creatures within the swamp are monsters, many orcs, Goblins, and hobgoblins live within and around the fog, using it as cover for their ambush on any creatures passing through their territory.

Geography

The Asrancis Swamp is a treacherous bog which sweeps the land of the Adis valley, between the south Zerion Mountains and the J' Gareg Ring. The water rises and falls sporadically with the time of year, sometimes the water may be nearly above the trees, when the water is not high, the mud becomes nearly liquid and near impossible to walk on. The water is dangerous to drink or to even touch for long periods of time, as it contains many contaminants from the collective waste of the swamp, the things swept up when the water is high, and the thousands of poisonous bugs which die in the water by the bucketful. The the heavy fog constantly covering the swamp is eerie and unsettling, but also strangely beautiful in the mesmerizing patterns in which it creeps through the trees, but do not be fooled, those who wander too deep into the haze for sake of curiosity often never return.

Fauna & Flora

The swamp is as rich in its life as it is dangerous, since most of the danger in the swamp comes from the creatures within it. Many beings like Goblins, bugbears, hobgoblins and the like live within the miasma. While these creatures often survive due to being in large groups, a single powerful monster could easily strike a lone being from the numerous places one can find cover in the swamp. Many creatures use the dense canopies, thick fog, and heavy foliage in order to sneak up on their prey and attack when they least expect it, other creatures succeed via their sheer might and killing capabilities. The Yox Flies are some of the most common creatures living within the swamp, highly poisonous insects with acidic blood. They are dangerous for predators to eat, have a potent bite, and reproduce like crazy, since there are so many around the water of the swamp has been polluted by their corpses, making it partially acidic and dangerous to drink. Many carnivorous plants also live within the swamp, ones big enough to eat even a goliath, many of these plants use paralyzing serums to incapacitate their prey, before slowly digesting them while the prey can do nothing but watch their own body melting in the stomach acids.

Natural Resources

While very few people from the outside world have the pure audacity to venture into the swamp purely for sake of collecting resources for any sum of gold, much like most other places, there are valuables to be found. It is said that the natural poisons found within the bodies of the plants and animals in the swamp are potent and dangerous like no other poison on Laeriss. Chemicals harvested from the swamp are often sold to extremely wealthy organizations or powerful people who use the poison to assassinate their enemies. As well as this since many creatures and plants have had to adapt to deal with differing potency of poison, many extremely valuable antidotes and antivenoms can be extracted from the life in the bog. Though since these have the power to cure or nullify many extremely potent poisons, these serums are extremely expensive and often only kings or people in the highest classes of nobility will posses even a single vial of the rare substance.
