1. Morning with Depression

William reached over and hit the snooze on his alarm clock. Again. He knew that he needed to get up and get ready for the day, but he just didn't have the energy to do it yet. Even after a full night's sleep, he didn't feel rested at all. All he wanted to do was to curl up and go back to sleep forever. Maybe then he would have the energy to get up.   Sitting up on the edge of his bed, he groaned at the aching in his body. It was like he had the flu, his entire body hurt whenever he moved. Pain was exhausting, no matter what kind of pain it was. But it seemed like whole body pain took even more out of you than smaller, more specific pain.   Reaching into the drawer on his night stand, he grabbed a bottle of Tylenol and one of energy pills. They both seemed to help, though only to dull the pain and give him a little bit more motivation. It was still hard to get moving. He took the pills, swallowing without the need for water. He had heard that it was a bad sign when you could swallow pills without water, but that didn't matter to him. Nothing really mattered to him anymore.   But today was his weekly lunch with his father, so he felt a bit more incentive to get moving. After all, he had no real idea how much longer his father would be around. William's mother had died a couple of months ago, and he felt that he had too little time with her. That motivated him to spend as much time with his father as he could.   Walking to the bathroom felt as if he were wearing concrete shoes, dragging him down and causing him pain with every step. But he made it, shambling along to the sink so that he could brush his teeth and comb his hair. He felt that a shower was just too much this morning.   So he dragged himself back to his bedroom to find some clothes to put on. He was tempted to put on sweats and a tee shirt, but he wanted to show his father more respect than that, so he chose a pair of slacks and a button-up shirt. His fingers ached by the time he had done up all of the buttons, but he had expected that, shaking as he was.
