Blood Mages
The Council of Twelve rules Kantashi, and the three colleges in the city train nearly all of the wizards, but the political ambitions and thirst for knowledge (and power) of these wizards won't abide isolation. The Blood Mages serve as the city's 'ambassadors', traveling the world in search of trade opportunities, magical artifacts, and eldritch lore. Though few receive them with open arms (these mages know how to exploit traditions of hospitality), almost no one wants to risk a wizard showdown in their trade district, so these mages are tolerated even as they're heavily scrutinized.
The Blood Mages report directly to the Council of Twelve, but are given broad autonomy to pursue their own agendas wherever they go.
Structure
Only a few dozen Blood Mages are active at any time. They report directly to the Council of Twelve, but within the organization itself there is no official rank. Often a wizard is selected by one of the Council as a potential heir or especial favorite; this wizard is nominally in charge of a small group of travelers, but politicking and jockeying can occur even in small groups.
Public Agenda
Blood Mages seek trade and the expansion of Kantashi's political power. The Council is nominally a part of the organization, though they rarely leave the city. Appointment to the Blood Mages can mean either political opportunity or exile from the city, though even in the latter case, a chance for redemption exists.
Assets
Serving as an official arm of the Kantashi government, the Blood Mages have ample access to money and goods, nearly always outfitted with skyships or sea vessels.
