Night Encounters - Mountains

Night Mountains 1

  DC 17
The shadows of some nearby hills seem to be moving? They're smaller than they appeared, and much closer, and they're getting closer still...   If unnoticed, 1d4+2 Trolls surround the sleeping party demand 1d4+2 day's rations and 200gp. If payed, they will scarf down the food, pocket the gold, and attack anyway.

Night Mountains 2

DC 16
The faint sounds of hushed but hurried marching grow from the path ahead of the party's campsite.   2d10+5 Goblins and 1 Hobgoblin are sneaking up on the sleeping the party. Their orders are to kill the outsiders or die trying. They cannot be bribed or persuaded out of fear of their boss, a nearby Bugbear.   Each Goblin is only carrying rusty weapons and 1d4 CP. The Hobgoblin has similarly rusty weapons and only 2d8 SP.

Night Mountains 3

DC 15
Dark shapes approach the party's camp from a nearby cave entrance.   If they go unnoticed, 1d6+4 Duergar will surround the sleeping party.
They'll let the party go for 500gp.

Night Mountains 4

DC 14
A strange wind blows hints of sage and wine into camp and shadowed figures creep towards the camp.    2d4+3 Satyrs sneak up to the sleeping travelers, and if unnoticed, steel up to 1d4+1 days' rations from the group before vanishing into the night.   If confronted, they'll put up a fight, but will flee when one of their number is gravely injured or killed.
If spoken to, they'll simply say that their goal was to make mischief.

Night Mountains 5

DC13
The silhouettes of hunting creatures stalk across the rocky horizon before disappearing down the face or back of a nearby slope. Wolves?   No. 1d4+2 Wargs come charging out of the night to attack the party, looking for a bloody meal. If unnoticed, they will rush in with a surprise attack, forgoing strategy for strength.

Night Mountains 6

DC12
Some lumbering mass passes by in the night.   It is some kind of large armored quadrupedal lizard- bigger than a bull with horns and a shield for a head!   A DC17 Nature check reveals that it is a Triceratops! The rare creature is herbivorous, but not harmless. The meat is apparently quite delicious as well.   DM Note: It can be butchered for rations with a successful Survival check:
  • 13 or below: 2 days' rations
  • 14-16: 3 days' rations
  • 17-19: 4 days' rations
  • 20 or above: 6 days' rations

Night Mountains 7

DC 10
Some small shapes approach the party's campsite in the dark.   1d4 goats pass by the camp for some late night grazing.   For each boar defeated, the party can receive 1 day's ration if looted.

Night Mountains 8

DC 9
A fox stalks nearby, looking for rabbits. It takes a wide arc around the camp, staying just out of the light.

Night Mountains 9

DC 8
A wild cat pursues a small rodent, both too caught up in the chase to take notice of the camp as they pass.

Night Mountains 10

DC 7
Something passes by overhead before circling back and coming down to land on a nearby tree or rock.   It's an owl, come to investigate the campsite for something small to snatch up.
