Chapter 3 - Smooth Talkin'

General Summary

The party engages in combat with the (remaining) bandits of the camp they emerged into from the sewers. Making short work of 3 them, the remaining human bandit escapes into the trees. With the camp cleared, the party decides to stay the night there. Searching the tents and bodies, they find some small change and a few empty bottles.

Day 3

In the morning, the group decides to venture back into the sewers to map them out a bit more (and to avoid trying to navigate through the magically disorienting woods again). In one of the chambers they pass through, an unknown creature wakes up and starts to head in the opposite direction, leaving large, three-toes footprints in its wake.   After mapping much of the northern sewers- having started in the southwest part of the city and traveled up and around the west side- the party exits the sewers in the western part of the city, the Industrial District. The party stops by The Guard station of Captain Ingrid, a human woman, and meet Officer Jesse, a human man at the front desk, who gives them a map of the town. After talking with him, they then decide to go speak with the chief in charge of the Pegasus Police, an orc named Filmore.    On the way to Filmore's guard station downtown, the party passes the glowing magic gates that stands closed on the city side of the waterfall moat, opposite the front entry doors of Unicorn Tower. There are four giant gemstones embedded in the iridescent metal bars of the gouble door design, aranged in a diamond patetrn; red up top, yellow on the left, green on the right, and blue on the bottom. They hadn't noticed when they passed by before, but closer now, they could clearly see that the blue gem was glowing brightly in the mid-day sun, while the other three simply reflected and refracted as one would expect of a polished jewel.   Meeting Chief Filmore, the party find him to be gruff, but ulrimately approachable. He tells them that he uses a pair of magic books to talk to the mayor by writing messages on the pages of one book and having them appear in the other. He also takes down a list of the missing adventurers that the party came into town looking for. When asked, he tells them that the Unicorn Wizard is the one keeping up the barrier around town and that it's for everyone's safety.   Before leaving the chief of police, the party decides to write a letter for him to pass on to the Unicorn Wizard. They make sure to write it using a "diplomatic" tone, placing no blame and asking what's going on. The letter also mentions looking for the missing adventurers, but notes that that is secondary information to their quest.   Leaving the Chief's guard station, around mid-afternoon, the party decides to investigate 2 of the buildings north of the bookstore downtown. They find that the buildings. While appearing no different from the surrounding buidings, they find that these two are hollow; despite having 2 and 3 stories respectively, the buildings have no stairs or ladders inside or out. simply empty floors with the occasional interior wall.   That night, the party returns to the inn they've been staying at, while Billy goes to the Tavern With No Name, a seedy bar on the edge of the Shia Wood. Looking for more information about the town, he talks to the barkeep, a Drow woman named Iris- though she doesn't give him her name. He doesn't get much information beyond what the party already knew, but he does get the attention of soem of the bar's patrons before regrouping with the party for the night.

Day 4

At the start of the next day, the party finds Captain Aura, the gold dragonborn guard captain they mett previously, and talk to him about his old adventuring party from before he came to the city and joined the Unicorn Police. They then go to the town's school, Dinosaur High andn talk to Ego Raptur, an aracokra wo teaches art there. He explains that he's friends with the mayor, Dan, and also tells them about the school's combat tournament, Laser Fight, which is happening tomorrow. They sign up under the guise of the family of Billy, who's elven nature makes him look like a teenager, despite being an adult. Billy takes on the last name "Stormblessed" as he's posing as Bayle's son.   After confirming the details of the event, the party decides to return to the sewers to investigate the strange tracks they stumbled across the last time they were underground, backtracking through one of the rooms they'd been through. They find rat bones and small splashes of blood, but not the source the footprints.
